The strict constiutionalist judges of the Slam Dunk Contest

The politics of the slam dunk contest has already cost at least one person. But it’s not one of the participants, it was a potential judge.

Former contest winner Brent Barry thought he was going to judge the likes of Blake Griffin and Serge Ibaka tonight, but instead he’ll be sitting at home after being labeled an “activist judge.”

It was revealed early today that a decision Barry wrote back in 1997 during a high-school dunk contest referenced a “right to privacy.” And went further to say, “Prior dunk attempts not made should in no way be held against the result of the finished dunk product.”

The Sprite Slam Dunk Contest judge appointment committee voted to remove Barry after deciding he was too radical for the contest.
